Noch gar keine Diskussionen rund um die Lyrics, hmm...dann machen wir doch mal einen Thread dazu auf. Fragen, Interpretationen, oder einfach die Stellen, die einem am besten gefallen, hier hinein

Ich kann mir da wieder die schönsten Bilder zusammenspinnen...
Meine Oma hat früher in der Nähe vom alten Münchner Flughafen gewohnt...bzw. sie wohnt immer noch da, nur ist der Flughafen jetzt weit außerhalb der Stadt. Fand' es immer ungemein spannend, den Fliegern hinterherzusehen; das gleichmäßige Blinken der verschiedenen Lichter am Nachthimmel hatte für mich tatsächlich etwas beruhigendes, zauberhaftes/magisches. Schaue auch heute noch gerne Flugzeugen hinterher....  pleased.gif

so, das ist mein persönliches best of best of der lyrics. kürzer ging es einfach nicht...
ich finde es ganz interessant zu lesen, wem was am besten gefällt : -)
momentan höre ich wirklich ausschliesslich dieses grandiose album und bei jedem mal wird es tatsächlich noch besser!! wow!

ich finde es sehr schön, dass man bei bestimmten dingen / situationen immer an die eels bzw ihre songs denkt

jeden sonntag oder auch sonst, wenn man mal eine ruhige minute hat, aber nicht wirklich was mit sich anzufangen weiss, muss ich hieran denken:

*it's a motherfucker
getting through a sunday
talking to the walls
just me again*

und wirklich jedesmal, wenn ich an der ostsee bin, aufs meer hinausschaue und die möwen krächzen höre, muss ich daran denken:

wie wahr. wie wahr. eels sind nicht nur musik, sondern lebenseinstellung und psychotherapie *fg*.

Tut mir aufrichtig leid das ich hier zweimal posten muss aber ist meine oben gestellte Frage wirklich so belanglos und dumm das sie einer Antwort eurerseits nicht würdig ist?

Mein Problem war auch das ich " But they're not fit to lick your boots" mit " Aber die sind es nicht mal wert, deine Stiefel zu lecken" zu übersetzen...

würde sich nich reimen 

meine güte, lasst euch doch mal diese ollen interpretationen sein und euch stattdessen einfach nur auf die musiiiiiik ein.
vielleicht sind e die töne ja doch wichtiger als ihr glaubt...

Ich denke, da steht kein "could", weil es sich nicht reimen würde (Englishman - can).

Ich versteh' den Song auch nicht, insofern bin ich nicht unbedingt die beste, um ihn zu übersetzen. Ich habe aber gerade noch mal in die Lyrics im Booklet geguckt, und da steht die Englishman-Strophe ein wenig anders:

nothing harder to watch
than an englishman
trying to cry
even if he can

Das könnte man vielleicht so übersetzen: Nichts ist unangenehmer, als einem Engländer beim Versuch zu weinen zuzugucken, selbst wenn er es letztendlich schafft.

Aber ich versteh diese ganze "xxx can dream but xxx never can do it"-Sache nicht.

Wahrscheinlich kommt gleich jemand vorbei, der besser Englisch kann und das alles aufklären kann.
